Role-play 11 Stragegy
On the OPIc test, we have something called the role-play set.
That is question #11, 12 and 13.
This video will focus on question #11.
2 Scenarios
1. You are talking to a stranger
2. You are talking to someone you know(likely a friend of family member.)
The role-play set is where we show our conversation skill.
We have 2 different scenarios.
In the first scenario, you're talking to a stranger.
In the second scenario, you're talking to someone that you know.
Now, within these 2 different scenarios,
we have 3 different ways to communicate.
3 Kinds of Communication
a) In person
b) Over the phone
c) Answering machine
Now, within 2 different scenariso,
we have 3 different ways to communicate.
In person / over the phone and leaving a message on an answering machine.
But, you know what?
It's rare to get an "answering machine" question on the OPIc test.
The concept of Role-play is that you are talking to an actual person.
And you are "showing" this conversation to the OPIc grader.
So let's see what strategy we can use for RP #11.

I'd like to give you a situation to act it out.
You would like to buy a new cellphone.
Call a store and ask 3 ro 4 questions about a new phone you would like to purchase.

RP11 Answering Stragegy
1st step : Briefly explain your situation
먼저 간단한 문장으로 전화를 걸게 된 상황, 이유를 설명하자
짧고 굵게 해도 된다.
All you have to do is briefly explain your situation.
Min Jin does a very nice job by keeping it short and sweet.
And that is what I want you guys to do.
You don't have to be a so fancy by trying to give a long explanation.
Keep it short and go right to the next step which is asking your first question.
Remember with our strategy, a shorter answer will be clearer and better.
2nd step : Ask your first question
자신의 상황을 조금 자세히 설명하면서 첫 번째 질문을 하자
만약에 자기 상황을 조금 더 설명할 수 없으면 바로 첫 번째 질문을 하자.
3rd step : Repeat the response !
첫 번째 질문 후 다음 질문하기 전에 누군가와 이야기하고 있다는 걸 채점자에게 보여줘야 한다.
실제 대화하고 있는 것은 아니지만 대화하고 있는 것을 아래 3단계로 표현해보자
1. Reaction : Oh, that cheap?!
2. Repeat the response : Only $1,000?
3. Feeling : That's great!
4th step : Ask two more questions and repeat steps 1, 2 and 3.
마지막으로 질문을 할 때는 대답이 긍정적이어야 한다.
부정적인 반응으로 간다면 혼란스러울 수 있다. 질문할 3가지 질문 모두 Yes 응답을 할 수 있게 해야 한다.
1~4 step까지 끝나는데 1분 정도 걸리면 되고, 메시지는 간단하고 명료하게 하자!
