오픽의 5가지 말하기 원칙

IM grade를 받은 사람들이 IM을 못 벗어나는 이유가 있다고 한다.

학원에서 가르쳐 주거나 본인이 미리 준비한 Script를 외워서 말하는 것이 큰 이유중 하나이다.

 "오팩 노잼"에서 말하는 IM에서 벗어나는 방법은 다음과 같다.

 

▶ IM에서 벗어나는 방법

1. 학원에서 만들어주는 Script를 버려라

2. 말할 때 다음의 5가지 Rule를 지켜라 (아래)

3. 불필요한 Filler를 사용하지 마라

4. 마지막에 That's all. That's it. Thank you로 끝내지 마라

 

▶OPIc 5가지 말하기 규칙

 

Rule #1: Never ask Ava a question.

If you must, ask a rhetorical question.

에바한테 질문하지 말기. 질문할때는 대답이 필요없는 질문만 할 것

 

Rule #2 : Do not use difficult words that you are uncomfortable with.

Use simple words. you are totally confident in using!

불편하고 어려운 단어 사용하지 않기! 사용하기 편하고 자신감있는 간단한 단어 사용하기

어려운 단어를 잘 못하용하다 보면 틀려서 어색하게 들릴 수 있다

 

Rule #3 : Try not to repeat the same word in the same sentence.

한문장에 같은 단어 반복하지 않기

 

Rule #4 : Don't use 2 descriptive or feeling words using "and"!

무언가를 묘사하거나 감정 단어 2개를 말할 때 "and"를 사용하지 말 것

미리 준비한 Script 처럼 보이기 때문에 사용하지 않는 것이 좋다

 

Rule #5 : Talk about one thing, and one thing only!

한가지에 대해서만 말하기!

 I would like to know where you live.

 Describe your home.

 What does it look like?

 How many rooms does it have?

 Give me a description with lots of details.

Oh, you wanna know about my place? Ok. Basically, I line in 4-storey house. This place very small place. Looks like, maybe... shoebox? So... but.. this place very, very comfortable and cozy because only focus me. Forcus to me. Very, very good, Favorite. So, I graduated university 공주. So, this place very look likes... Ugh, like, I feel like so comfortable.	OK, you wanna know about my place. It's a very small place. Looks like maybe a shoebox. My room is just so, you know, comfy. I mean, it's just so cozy!

Don't tell yourself that you're bad.

It all starts with a positive mindset.

And with that, I'm gonna make sure that you improve.

스크립트나 단어들을 외우는 것을 정말 좋지 않다.

And that method is so unproductive and pretty much impossible.

 

No wonder you feel ashamed! 부끄러운게 당연하소?!

No wonder you feel embarrassed. 창피한게 당연하소

No wonder you feel discouraged! 좌절하는게 당연하소

*no wonder : 당연하다....

학원에서 만들어주는 스크립트를 버리고 자기 생각, 자기 이야기를 해야 한다.

 

He recently joined my OPIc NOJAM School. So he doesn't know much about my strategies yet.

I like how this student is trying to sound natural. And he does this by asking a question starting with "oh".

"Oh, you wanna know about my place?"

At this level, we're not ready to ask Ava questions because it's gonna make you sound awkward and forced.

If you don't continue with that style.

Oh so you wanna know about my place... alright, well.

 

Later, I realized that he was talking about how he lives on one of the floors of a 4-storey apartment/complex/building.

어려운 단어를 잘 못사용해서 어색한 표현

Do not use difficult words that you are uncomfortable with.

Instead, use simple words that you are totally confident in using.

* Tip : house, apartment 쓰지 말고 home이라고 쓸 것. house는 apartment와 구별할 때쓰는 말

 

This student used the word "place" twice.

So it's actually better to say: My place is very small.

In higher level, there is an emphasizing technique where you purposely repeat words within a sentence.

But at this level, we definitely don't need to do that.

 

Do not use 2 descriptive or feeling words using "and".

For example, comfy and cozy

Do you know why you shouldn't do this?

Because if you do, you will sound like a script!

Many students who come to me after trying to memorize script from Hakwons or books, sound like this!

Here are some more examples: comfy and cozy, crispy and crunchy, juicy and tender, wind down and relax 등등

 

There are so may way to use "comfy" or "cozy" in a sentence.

But there's literally only one way to say: comfy And cozy.

And that is way if you do not follow Rule #4,

you will likely sound like a script.

The only difficult word hers is "just".

But this word can easily be practiced even at this level.

 

Ok, this is one of the biggest mistakes I hear from students of all levels.

We are talking about our small room here.

So why are we talking about our university all of a sudden?

And that is why I'm going to ignore the rest of the answer here.

Because I really don't need to hear it.

 

In this case, tell me about how your small home is so comfortable because it saves you money.

Small house-low rent because it saves you time.

Small house-less cleaning because it allows for stronger wifi.

Small house-stronger wifi signal

 

Rember this, you have one minute to answer this question.

I don't recommend yo to go over.

 

That's all. That's it. Thank you. 이렇게 끝내면 자연스럽게 들리지 않는다.

And it shows a lack of confidence in your ability to answer question.

 

And you'll notice that you'll already sound so much better.
