긴 문장으로 이야기 해보자

Technology has definitely changed over time.

Tell me about an early memory that you have about a piece of technology.

It could be a computer or a mobile phone from many years ago.

Describe for me what this thing was like back then.

I'll be talking about my phone since I didn't really have own computer in the past. Today, I own a galaxy note 8 which is amazing because I can use it to contact people all around the world. But these days it's, uh, you know, it's a totally different story. In the past, I had this tiny, litter phone.. slide phone which I don't even know which company it was from. But I could only use it to call and text my family and friends in Korea. ​ Um, but today, which my galaxy note 8, I use a lot of apps. But, especially, I use the Kakao app the most which I use to, uh, call and video call my cousins in America. ​ Uh, yeah, I don't know how I would be.. I would be able to live without my phone today being unable to contact them through this Kakao app.

AL Tip1 : 문장을 길게 말하는 연습을 하라

보통 오픽을 준비하거나 영어로 말을 할 때 간결하고 짧게 말하기를 원하는데,

이 학생은 쉽게 이야기하지만 길게 이야기하는 것을 원했다. 쉽게 길게 이야기하는 것도 AL을 받을 수 있는 하나의 팁이다.

문장을 길게 이야기하기 위해서 4가지 단어를 잘 사용해보자

I love dogs because they are so cute.

I love dogs because they are so cute which is important to me.

Because if they were not cute, then I wouldn't like dogs.

처음 할 때는 어렵겠지만 계속 연습이 필요하다.

​​* I would like to talk about~ : 이 표현은 너무 뻣뻣하니까 사용하지 말자. 문어체이다. 약간 스크립트 같다

  I would say..., I would have to say...가 훨씬 자연스러운 표현이다.​

AL Tip2 : all around word와 같이 어디든 뒤에 붙여서 쓸 수 있는 자신만의 표현을 만들어라.

 

Hanny는 all around word라는 표현을 많이 쓰는데 이런 표현은 문장 뒤에 어디서든 붙여서 문장을 길게 말할 수 있다.

Hanny uses "all around word" quite frequently for OPIc.

​When she's answering technology questions: I can communicate with people all around the world.

When she's answering overseas trip question:  I love to travel all around the world.

When she's answering a coffee shop question: You know, I love to try different kinds of coffee from all around the world.

I really recommend you using this AL expression!

 

AL Tip3 : tiny, little phone와 같이 두가지 표현을 붙여서 자세하게 설명해보자

 

아주 작은 것을 말할 때 여기처럼 tiny, little 과 같이 말하면 정말 자연스럽게 들린다.

큰 것에 대해서 말할때도 비슷하게 표현할 수 있다. 예를 들어,

I went to a prety big, humungous hotel last year and it was just amazing.

여기서는 작은 거나 큰 것을 강조하는 표현인데, 다른 방향으로 표현할 수도 있다.

tiny, awful phone 작고 끔찍한 폰, tiny, amazing phone 작고 좋은 폰, tiny, expensive phone 작고 비싼 폰

It's a very skillful way to add more detail without confusing the message.

이 표현은 메시지 전달도 잘하면서 더 자세하게 설명하는데 좋은 표현이다.

 

AL Tip4 : General을 이야기하고 Specific 하게 이야기하여 이야기를 좁혀가자

 

Hanny는 I use a lot of apps.(General). But, especially, I use the Kakao app the most.(Specific)로 이야기하면 표현이 집중되고 깔끔해진다. 예를 들어서 나는 스마트폰으로 유튜브도 하고 인스타도 하고 카카오도하고 이렇게 많은 이야기를 하려고 하다 보면 이야기가 발산되고 메시지 전달도 명확하게 하기 힘들다.
