IH를 받았는데 왜 AL을 못 받는 것일까?! AL을 빨리 받는 3가지 방법을 정리해보자
첫째, How to talk to Ava
둘째, Developing your story
셋째, Swearing
I think it's very crucial that I teach this lesson in English because of some of the lessons and key points that I want to share with you is a little bit difficult for me to express in Korean.
And if you appreciate that please smash that like button..
Anyways, without further ado, let us go ahead and begin our lesson.
AL Tip1 에바하고 자연스럽게 대화할 수 있는 전략 How to talk to Ava
how to actually speak with Ava
You know, to be honest, in order for you to be able to get AL,
You need to truly show your conversation ability
And remember, conversation skill and just knowing some words and expressions are two different things.
So when you show that you are actually talking with Ava,
it really makes you sound like you are a great communicator,
and it also further shows that you do not have a script.
So, in this first lesson,
I really want to show how we can converse with Ava in a skillful way
even though we are actually not talking with Ava!
You see, POIc test has some limitations.
We are supposed to "show" conversation without actually having a conversation with someone.
So, in a sense, this test is actually quite hard.
It's not easy to talk for one minute or even two minutes sometimes just by ourselves without some sort of dialogue.
Anyway, even though it's very important to speak with Ava but if you actually literally speak with her... like literally...
Oh hey Ava, how you doin'?
Oh, you're doin' good? Oh ok.
Then you're actually gonna sound very fake and your marks will go down.
If you actually want to show that kind of Role Play interaction then it's best for you to save that style for the Role Play questions.
So here's my question for you:
How do we talk with Ava without actually talking with her?
RP 롤플레이 질문도 아닌데 어떻게 에바하고 대화하는 모습을 보여줄 것인가?
"you"단어를 사용하는 것이다.
There are many expressions that have "you" in it.
That's gonna make you sound like you're having a conversation with Ava.
Using these "you" expressions.. you're not gonna actually be speaking with her,
but it will still sound like you're having some sort of dialogue.
And that tactic, that skill, that strategy is absolutely perfect for this OPIc test.
And you know what?
What's even better though is that not only is this strategy good for your OPIc test,
but it will also be great for your overall English speaking ability.
질문) 우리 기술에 대한 의존성 때문에 문제가 자주 발생합니다.
어떤 기술이 제대로 작동하지 않아서 문제를 겪었던 때를 생각해보세요
아마 컴퓨터가 고장 났거나 휴대폰을 수리받지 못했을 거예요
기술을 작동하는데 문제가 있었던 때를 말해주세요

Well, technology problem.. Oh alright, you know, I have to tell you this story related to my airpods. You definitely have heard of Apple's airpods, right? Um, anyway, you know I was really pissed off in the library a few weeks ago.. because, um, the wireless earbuds... um, was not connected with my phone. So, um, my music was actually playing out loud in the library! Um, just for the record, I usually prefer listening to music while studying. So during the day, as always, I was preparing to listen to music before studying. So I made sure there were no problems with my bluetooth. But as soon as I played my first song, it turned out there was problem. So my song played out loud in the library. In the really quiet library. I was really embarrassed. So, I was like, "WTF is happenign now?!" |

Now, what's interesting is that if Ava was actually a real person,
and this student was answering her question,
he would pretty much be speaking in the same way.
You see, when we are speaking with people,
these "you" expressions really help our conversations to flow a lot better.
And if you think about it,
That's actually why the filler "you know' is just so good to use when you're speaking with someone.
Even though I keep telling you that these "you" expressions are good when you are speaking with someone,
they are actually bad and awkward when you are speaking to yourself.
Or, in other words, when you are thinking to yourself.
It's actually gonna be very rare that you will ever use these "you" expressions other than maybe the actual word "you". So here's an example:
Sam, I know life is though, but you can do it!
vs.
You know, Sam, I know life is though, but you can do it!
In this second example, the "you know" expression was a litttle bit awkward especially with I'm thinking to my own self.
Anyway, what I'm trying to show you here is that these "you" expressions are great for conversation.
Ana that's exactly what this test is all about.
I feel like a lot of the IH students froget this.
This is actually a conversation test.
And because it's a conversation test, we have to show that we are talking with Ava.
So, using these you expressions are highly, highly, recommended!
Let's go over line by line.
AL Tip2 스토리 전계 developing your story
I find that a lot of students have difficulty with Past Experience answers.
Especially because their organization is difficult to follow.
But take a look at this student.
After his Main Point, which we just went over,
He then starts to develop his story.
You see, his whole story is abotu his aripods messing up on him.
And he mentions that skillfully right in the beginning in his Main Point..
and then starts to give the rest of the details.
Or in other words, "develops" his story.
Now what do I notice most IH students do...?
Instead of giving that clear MP first, they start developing the story RIGHT AWAY.
Now, in normal conversation,
When you are speaking with someone, that's not bad.
However, you are very limited on time with this OPIc test.
And also, this is not a dialogue, let's be real!
처음부터 이야기를 전개하는 대신에 먼저 Main Pont부터 이야기하고 이야기를 전개하자
이렇게 하면 대답이 훨씬 부드럽고 이해하기도 쉬워진다.
And so, what's a great way to start developing your story right after your MP?
Well, here's an example:
AL Tip3 욕을 쓸 수도 있다고?! swearing
오픽 시험에서 욕을 할 수 있을까요?!
I'll be very honest with you.
At first, I thought that you shouldn't.
And you know what? For me, I still wouldn't.
Simple because I'm not the type of person who actually likes to swear.
But if you like to swear..
When I started to see students who actually swore and still got AL,
that's when I realized, "Oh, this test is absolutely wonderful!"
It's purely about your communication skills.
It doesn't really matter about what bad words or slangs you use.
As long as your message was clearly delivered.
So in case you are a gangster, let me help you swear a little bit better.
I will read those comments,
and it will help me realize how much more serious
I have to be with these type of videos to help you get the AL mark that you deserve.
AL을 받지 못하는 이유가 많겠지만,
위 3가지 Tip사용하면 AL을 바로 받을 수 있을 것이다
